Several elected officials in Berrien County have officially been sworn in for their new terms.
At Thursday’s regular meeting of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners, outgoing Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler administered the oath of office in a mass ceremony of sorts. She did the “short-short” version of the oath to save time. Among those sworn in were ten of the twelve Berrien County Commissioners.
“I feel very honored being able to swear you in,” Tyler said. “This is the last time I will be able to swear in many of you who are my friends and my work companions, and God bless you all.”
Commissioner Julie Wuerfel wasn’t present at the meeting, but Tyler said she was previously sworn in. Tyler, who was just elected to the county commission to represent District 12, was earlier sworn in by Judge Arthur Cotter.
Also taking the oath of office Thursday were new Berrien County Clerk Stacy Loar-Porter, Drain Commissioner George McManus, Register of Deeds Laura Freehling, Treasurer Shelly Weich, Prosecutor Amy Byrd, and Surveyor John Kamer.
