Lawmakers leaving little wiggle room to address minimum wage

The Michigan Supreme Court this year mandated changes to both tipped wages and sick leave. Will there be a legislative fix?

It’s something both Republicans and Democrats have expressed an interest in fixing to reverse the Supreme Court decision on tipped wages and sick leave. However, Democratic state House Speaker Joe Tate refused to take the issue up on Friday, leading to a Republican walkout.

Republican state Representative Jamie Green says time is running out to address the issue, with or without Tate.

So my plea is that they are ready to work in January to put this to bed, and the governor’s office is listening to take care of this immediately in January,” Green said.

Green says by taking no action, 20% of restaurants could be forced to shut down. She says more than 60% would at least have to make cuts.
