The River Valley school district is excited to announce a new academic scholarship for high school seniors planning to pursue a degree in music.
Superintendent Dave Campbell mentioned that this scholarship aims to inspire students to explore music as a viable career and to highlight the diverse possibilities that a career in music can offer.
“Scholarships like this give kids hope and so does building skills,” Campbell says. “Building kids’ skills, that gives them hope. Teaching them to read well, to think well, to write well, to compute well. I’m just thrilled to partner with anybody in our community that wants to help kids develop their hope and their inspiration to go make something of themselves in whatever area it is that they’re interested in.”
The Garth Taylor School of American Music Scholarship, made possible by the Michigan Arts Foundation, offers $1,000, which can be renewed every four years, totaling up to $4,000.
Students will be able to apply for the scholarship starting this winter. Campbell expressed his gratitude for Kirsten Pagel’s contributions to helping students enhance their musical talents.
