Southwest Michigan is facing a winter weather advisory that will last until Thursday afternoon, attributed to lake effect snow.
Starting Wednesday afternoon into the early evening, snow squalls, strong winds, and frigid temperatures are expected. According to NWS meteorologist Rachel Cobb, the advisory will lead to scattered snow showers.
“Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible, but there will also be winds gusting size 35 to 40 miles an hour which could cause blowing and drifting snow and lower visibility,” Cobb says.
Cobb anticipates that Berrien County will see its best chance of snowfall beginning Wednesday afternoon after 4 p.m. The advisory will also introduce colder temperatures on Wednesday evening extending into Thursday.
“So after this is done, it will be very cold tomorrow [Thursday],” Cobb says. “The high is only like 18 to 20. But then Friday will be dry, but we’ll warm up to around 30. And then Saturday, though, we’ll be in the low 40s.
The NWS advises drivers to be cautious of decreased visibility and slippery road conditions as temperatures drop.
