The Niles Vikings fell short of ultimate glory on Friday afternoon. The Vikings lost 35-6 in their first-ever appearance in the Division 4 state championship game.

Despite the loss, Niles had a successful season. After losing its first game of the season against St. Joseph, the Vikings went on to win 12 straight games to get a bid in the championship game. This was the school’s first-ever football semi-final and final appearance in school history.

Niles will see just nine seniors leave, with most of the team returning for next season.

Goodrich won its first state championship title in school history.
