Niles will meet Goodrich for the MHSAA Division 4 state championship this afternoon.

Niles is playing in the first state championship in school history, while Goodrich is making its second-ever appearance in the state title game. Both are seeking their first football championship.

Quarter 1:

Due to the previous game’s conclusion, kickoff is scheduled for 12:40 p.m.

Niles will receive the ball first; Goodrich will receive it to start the second half.

With 4:31 left in the first, Goodrich scored the first points in this one on 4th down. On the Niles 21, quarterback Tanner Mazich found receiver Max Macklem for a 20-yard score.

Goodrich will start the second quarter with possession on the Niles 27-yard line.

With 9:49 left in the second quarter, runningback Chase Burnett found the endzone on a one-yard run.

Goodrich 21, Niles 0

With 5:09 left, Martians’ runningback Burnett scored his second touchdown of the afternoon with a five-yard run. The score was set up after Niles turned the ball over on an interception, giving Goodrich good field position.
