AAA is going to be busy this Thanksgiving weekend.

AAA of Michigan spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells us the organization is expecting to rescue more than 570,000 stranded drivers out on the sides of roads nationally.

The most common reasons are flat tires, dead batteries, and lockout,” Woodland said. “That’s why it’s so important to have your vehicle looked at before you get out on the roadway.”

Woodland says an estimated 71.7 million Americans are forecast to take a Thanksgiving road trip this year, so it will be crowded out on the roads.

For those who plan to celebrate with some refreshments this weekend, Woodland tells us AAA has activated its Tow To Go service, which helps keep drunk drivers off the road.

The way the program works, the would-be impaired driver calls AAA, we dispatch a tow truck driver who then transports the would-be impaired driver and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.”

Woodland says although Tow To Go is free and available to everyone, it should be viewed as a last resort. It’ll be available through 6 a.m. Monday. So, if you might be drinking, plan to get a ride home from someone who isn’t.

Woodland reminds everyone to buckle up and slow down out on the roads with so much traffic.
