Coming up this Friday in South Haven will be Holiday in the Park, a family celebration to kick off the holiday season.

Jennifer Sistrunk with the South Haven Van Buren County Convention and Visitors Bureau tells us things will start with ornament decorating at the South Haven Center for the Arts at 2 p.m. and there will be a Holiday Scavenger Hunt with the Mitten Children’s Museum from 3 to 5.

The annual holiday parade, featuring Decadent Dogs, starts at 4:30 at the corner of Huron and Kalamazoo.

We’ve got all the key people and pets, Santa and his elves and dogs, and this year a new feature is Santa is bringing his reindeer, which are live reindeer that will be in the parade as well,” Sistrunk said.

Then they’ll light the community Christmas tree.

At the end of the parade, as soon as Santa steps off, we get started with the Christmas tree lighting in front of City Hall with Paul Layendecker  from Cosy Radio and Mayor Annie Brown and myself.”

Sistrunk says the rest of the day will include S’mores in Dyckman Park, pictures with Santa and the reindeer, and ice skating.

Sistrunk tells us Holiday in the Park is a fun, laid back way to welcome the season while everyone prepares for the biggest winter event in South Haven, it’s New Year’s Eve Party.
