Are we tracking for a more snow this winter?
Warmer than average fall temperatures have kept Lake Michigan warmer than usual this season, which could indicate more lake effect snow. However, the emergence of La Nina could have the biggest effect, according to Dr. Lei Meng, a professor of climatology with Western Michigan University.
“It’s just a little bit higher probability,” Meng said. “You might get the opposite snowfall than the research finds. It’s just a probability, it’s nothing confirmed. It’s definitely, nobody can say we’re gonna have more snowfall, less snowfall for the coming winter.”
Meng says based on averages during La Nina years, we could be in for more than average snowfall.
