Zach LaVine scored 16 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and the Chicago Bulls pulled away for a 122-112 win against the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. The game was tied at 95 with 8:46 left, but LaVine had nine points in a 13-2 run that put the Bulls up by 11 with 5:45 to go. He hit six 3-pointers in the quarter after a slow start. Nikola Vucevic led the Bulls with 29 points and 11 rebounds while Coby White scored 25.  Cade Cunningham had 26 points and 10 assists for the Pistons and Malik Beasley added 21.

Raptors 130, Pacers 119 – Barrett scores season-high 39 as Raptors snap 7-game skid, beat Pacers 130-119
RJ Barrett scored a season-high 39 points, Jakob Poeltl had 30 points and 15 rebounds for his third straight double-double and the Toronto Raptors snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating the Indiana Pacers 130-119. Toronto came in with the NBA’s worst record at 2-12 and won for the first time since beating Sacramento in overtime on Nov. 2. Benedict Mathurin scored 17 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and Pascal Siakam had 25 points and 10 rebounds against his former team as the Pacers lost for the third time in four games.

NBA – Bob Love, a 3-time NBA All-Star with the Chicago Bulls, has died at 81
Former Chicago Bulls forward Bob Love, a three-time All-Star who spent 11 years in the NBA, has died. He was 81. The Bulls say Love died after a long battle with cancer. He averaged 21.3 points and 6.8 rebounds during his nine seasons with the team. The team said Love’s "impact transcended basketball.”

Texans 34, Cowboys 10 – Texans never trail while handing Cowboys 5th straight loss, 34-10
Joe Mixon ran for three touchdowns, Derek Barnett returned a fumble 28 yards for a score and the Houston Texans beat the Dallas Cowboys 34-10. The Texans stopped just the second two-game losing streak in quarterback C.J. Stroud’s two seasons while maintaining a two-game lead in the AFC South. In a season filled with things gone wrong for the Cowboys, debris fell from their stadium’s retractable roof as it was opening a few hours before the game. Dallas lost its fifth consecutive game, and Cooper Rush dropped to 0-2 filling in for Dak Prescott after his season-ending hamstring tear.

NFL – Debris falls from roof of AT&T Stadium before Cowboys-Texans game
Officials say a piece of the roof at the home of the Dallas Cowboys fell to the field while the retractable portion of it was being opened at least three hours before a game against Houston. AT&T Stadium was mostly empty when the incident occurred, and team officials said nobody was injured. The roof was closed without incident about an hour later. Officials say winds gusting to 30 mph during the day contributed to the incident.

NFL – Lions haven’t taken any opponent lightly on the way to 9-1 record
The Detroit Lions have developed a killer instinct this season. They entered Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as two-touchdown favorites and didn’t let up until they kneeled down on their final drive. The result was a historic 52-6 blowout in which the Lions outgained the Jaguars by 475 yards. The Lions are only seven-point favorites for Sunday’s visit to Indianapolis, but they know they should win, especially if they play like they did against the Jaguars. Coach Dan Campbell says his team will be ready to face a playoff-contending opponent.

NFL – Eberflus stands by decision not to run another play prior to blocked FG against
Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus is standing by his decision to let the clock wind down rather than run another play prior to a last-second field goal attempt against Green Bay. The Bears ended a chaotic week in which they fired their offensive coordinator with their fourth straight loss. They fell 20-19 to the Packers on Sunday when Green Bay blocked Cairo Santos’ 46-yard kick as time expired. Chicago could have run another play to try to set up a shorter field goal, but Eberflus said Monday the risks outweighed the potential reward.

Nimari Burnett scored a season high 18 points and Auburn transfer Tre Donaldson matched his career high with 16 as Michigan roared away from Miami (OH) in the second half to post a 94-67 win in an opening-round game in the Fort Myers Tipoff tournament. Michigan held an eight-point lead, 44-36 at intermission and opened the second half with an 8-0 run kicked off by a Burnett jumper and a Roddy Gayle Jr. 3-pointer, the first of eight treys the Wolverines knocked down in the final 20 minutes. The team finished shooting 58.3% from the field (35 of 60) and 48.3% from long range (14 of 29).

Dylan Larkin had a goal and had an assist, and Alex DeBrincat, Marco Kasper and Michael Rasmussen also scored for Detroit, which has lost five of six. Cam Talbot stopped 29 shots.

NHL – Referee Mitch Dunning communicative, can move extremities after violent collision
NHL referee Mitch Dunning is fully communicative and can move all his extremities following a violent collision with Colorado defenseman Josh Manson in Monday night’s game at Philadelphia. The NHL said Dunning was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons and that all neurological signs are normal. Manson skated alone on the ice when he slammed into Dunning early in the first period. Dunning went down in a heap and lay prone on the ice for several minutes. Dunning appeared to be moving his feet and moved his right hand when Manson went to talk to him.

MLB – Pirates ace Paul Skenes and Yankees pitcher Luis Gil win Rookie of the Year awards
Hard-throwing Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes capped a remarkable season by winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award while Luis Gil of the New York Yankees edged Baltimore’s Colton Cowser to take the AL honor. It’s the first time the rookie awards went to two pitchers since 2011, when Tampa Bay starter Jeremy Hellickson and Atlanta closer Craig Kimbrel won. Skenes didn’t make his big league debut until May 11 but the right-hander was such an immediate sensation that he was selected to start the All-Star Game for the NL on July 16.

MLB – Suzuki and Sabathia among 14 newcomers on baseball Hall of Fame ballot
Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitcher CC Sabathia are among 14 new candidates on the Hall of Fame ballot, joining 14 holdovers led by reliever Billy Wagner. Pitcher Félix Hernández, outfielder Carlos González and infielders Dustin Pedroia and Hanley Ramírez also are among the newcomers joined by reliever Fernando Rodney, second baseman Ian Kinsler, second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, catchers Russell Martin and Brian McCann, and outfielders Curtis Granderson and Adam Jones. Wagner was five votes shy of the 75% needed last year and will be on the ballot for the 10th and final time.

PWHL – PWHL releases neutral-site games, ranging from NC to the Pacific Northwest
The PWHL is taking women’s pro hockey to places from Raleigh, North Carolina, to the Pacific Northwest in releasing its nine-date schedule of neutral site games. Billed as the “Takeover Tour,” the six-team league selected six U.S. cities — Raleigh, Buffalo, Detroit, St. Louis, Denver and Seattle. Canadian stops will be in Vancouver and Quebec City, with one site yet to be announced. The announcement comes as the PWHL prepares to open its second season on Nov. 30, and with the league launching plans to expand by as many as two teams by 2025-26.

Boxing – Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight draws record betting for a combat sports event
Jake Paul’s unanimous victory over former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson might have been disappointing from a competitive standpoint, but it drew record betting. BetMGM says the fight between the YouTube star and the 58-year-old Tyson was its most-bet boxing or mixed-martial arts fight. The sportsbook took three times the number of bets and four times the money of any combat sport in BetMGM’s history. A Caesars Entertainment spokesperson compared the amount of betting to that on an NFL game.

PGA – Trump thinks he can fix golf’s mess, will play golf with PGA Tour commissioner
President-elect Donald Trump has said it would take about 15 minutes to sort out golf’s mess. That started with four hours on the golf course with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. The PGA Tour confirmed a Washington Post report that Monahan accepted Trump’s invitation to play golf last Friday. The tour did not share what was discussed at Trump International Golf Club in South Florida. The tour has been negotiating with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia about becoming an investor. PIF is the financial muscle of LIV Golf, which has taken away key players from the PGA Tour.

Soccer – Pulisic scores twice, US beats Jamaica 4-2 for 5-2 aggregate win
Christian Pulisic scored twice in the first half, Tim Weah got a goal in his return to the U.S. national team from a red card and the Americans beat Jamaica 4-2 for a 5-2 aggregate win in their CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal. Playing their first competitive matches under coach Mauricio Pochettino, the United States advanced to a semifinal on March 20 at Inglewood, California. The Americans won the first three editions of the tournament. Pulisic scored in the 13th and 33rd minutes, giving him 33 international goals.

Soccer – US men’s soccer to open 2025 schedule with friendly against Venezuela
The U.S. men’s national team will open its 2025 schedule with a friendly against Venezuela on Jan. 18 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The game is not on a FIFA international fixture date, so the teams will be without most Europe-based regulars. The American team under new coach Mauricio Pochettino will hold a training camp before the match, relying heavily on players from Major League Soccer.
