A major construction project in St. Joseph is now finished, and it will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

The Upton Drive reconstruction project is finally complete. The event to celebrate will take place at 303 Upton Drive, in St. Joseph, at 4 p.m. with remarks scheduled for 4:15

The city of St. Joseph says the Upton Drive project is part of a larger vision to improve regional connectivity and support economic growth in the area. The reconstruction of the road also included upgrades to utilities and transportation infrastructure.

St. Joe Mayor Brook Thomas says the completion of the work is “about strategic infrastructure improvements that strengthen our community and support the continued growth of businesses, housing, and recreational amenities in the area.”

Work done as part of the Upton Drive reconstruction included the elimination of combined sewer overflow on the south side of the St. Joseph River, which was intended to improve water quality.

It took several partners to complete the project, including Abonmarche, MDOT, CSX Railroad, EGLE, ARP, Whirlpool, and Harbor Shores.
