Jets 21, Texans 13 – Garrett Wilson makes eye-popping TD catch, Jets beat Texans 21-13 to snap 5-game skid
Garrett Wilson made a dazzling one-handed 26-yard go-ahead touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter and the New York Jets snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Houston Texans 21-13. Aaron Rodgers had three touchdown passes, including another earlier one-handed score by Wilson and a 37-yard throw to recently acquired Davante Adams, and the Jets won for the first time in four games under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich. It also helped make up for a Jets touchdown that wasn’t when rookie Malachi Corley made a mental mistake that negated his first NFL score. Rodgers finished 22 of 32 for 211 yards. C.J. Stroud was 11 of 30 for 191 yards for the Texans.

NFL – NFC showdown has Lions’ high-powered offense and Packers’ ball-hawking defense
The Detroit Lions have a big-time offense. The Green Bay Packers specialize in taking the ball away. The NFL’s highest-scoring offense and the league leader in takeaways face off Sunday when the NFC North-leading Lions visit the Packers. The Lions have reeled off five consecutive victories while the Packers have won four straight. Green Bay enters this game with an uncertain quarterback situation after Jordan Love left the Packers’ 30-27 victory at Jacksonville with a strained groin.

NFL – Coming off tough loss on Hail Mary, Bears try to end Cards’ 2-game winning streak
The calendar is flipping to November and the Arizona Cardinals are right in the middle of the playoff race. Now quarterback Kyler Murray says the real football begins. The Cardinals will try for a three-game winning streak when they host the Chicago Bears, who are also right in the middle of the playoff race with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Arizona has won three of its past four games, all on fourth-quarter comebacks, and is tied with the 49ers and Seahawks atop the NFC West. The Bears are coming off a brutal 18-15 loss that ended on Washington’s game-winning Hail Mary as time expired.

Sharks 3, Blackhawks 2 – Will Smith scores twice for first NHL goals, Sharks beat Blackhawks 3-2
Will Smith scored twice for his first NHL goals, and the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2. The Sharks have won three straight after going winless in their first nine games, while the Blackhawks have dropped five of their last six. On a power play midway through the second period, Smith – the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft – scored the winning goal with a wrist shot off the crossbar. Mackenzie Blackwood and Petr Mrazek each stopped 26 shots, but Blackwood will be credited with the win.

NCAAFB – No. 13 Indiana aims for program’s 1st 9-0 start at Michigan State
No. 13 Indiana hopes the milestone moments do not end anytime soon. The Hoosiers already produced the most lopsided win in school history, 77-3 over Western Illinois, and matched the most lopsided Big Ten win in school history, 56-7 over Nebraska. Indiana will be aiming for its next target when it visits Michigan State as the Hoosiers have never started the season with nine consecutive wins in the program’s 137 years. Indiana has kept its record unblemished because of the way it starts and finishes games. The Hoosiers are the nation’s only team that has held all of its opponents scoreless in the first quarter.

NCAAFB – No. 1 Oregon to face defending champion Michigan as 2-touchdown favorite
No. 1 Oregon will play at Michigan on Saturday, favored to win by more than two touchdowns. The Ducks have a chance to be 9-0 for the first time since 2012, the last season it was No. 1 in the AP Top 25. A win would help Oregon to stay in a position to earn top seeding in the College Football Playoff. The defending champion Wolverines have had an underwhelming season and an upset would provide a desperately needed boost. Michigan’s passing game has been shaky and it will have to be suddenly sharp to compete with the Ducks.

MLB – Will Venable takes over White Sox team that set modern record for season losses
Will Venable’s first job as a major league manager is going to be a tough one. Venable was hired by the Chicago White Sox after they set the modern major league record for most losses in a season. The team announced the move hours after the World Series ended. Venable, who turned 42 on Tuesday, is stepping in for Pedro Grifol, who was fired in August. With Grady Sizemore serving as interim manager, the club finished with a 41-121 record. Venable was an associate manager for Texas for the past two years. He handled daily schedule items and outfield instruction as part of his duties with the Rangers, who won the World Series in 2023.

MLB – Dodgers have eye on back-to-back titles with Ohtani returning to mound in 2025
The Los Angeles Dodgers spent big bucks to beef up their roster with the additions of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto this season. The hard part was surviving a multitude of injuries, a gambling scandal involving Ohtani’s former interpreter and challenges from their rivals. In the end, the Dodgers proved a resilient bunch and beat the New York Yankees in five games to win their eighth World Series title. Next season, Ohtani will return to being a two-way player when he takes the mound to pitch. The team has eight free agents heading into the offseason, including Clayton Kershaw who has already said he plans to return after missing the playoffs with a toe injury.

MLB – Yankees turn attention to keeping Juan Soto
Instead of a World Series championship film, the New York Yankees season ended in a comedy of errors that left them to pursue Juan Soto without a title glow. Soto was the last player lingering in the dugout after Wednesday night’s 7-6 loss in Game 5, watching the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrate after New York frittered away a five-run lead. The 26-year-old free agent outfielder is likely to command a contract of at least $500 million. His market is likely to include the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers along with perhaps the Blue Jays, Cubs, Giants, Padres, Phillies and Red Sox.

MLB – John Fisher pledges $1 billion to construction of A’s stadium in Las Vegas
Athletics executive Sandy Dean says club owner John Fisher and his family will invest $1 billion into the construction of a stadium in Las Vegas and U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs will offer a $300 million loan. Dean made his remarks to a special meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority board. Dean said four letters will be presented at the Dec. 5 authority asserting financing and construction details will be in place. Final approvals are expected to be made at that meeting to allow construction of the $1.5 billion, 33,000-seat domed ballpark.
