Upton backing Harris for president

Retired Congressman Fred Upton has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

Upton announced Wednesday this marks the first time he’s ever voted for a Democrat for president. He tells us Donald Trump isn’t fit for the office.

You know, he’s 78 years old, he’s unhinged,” Upton said. “I mean, who could say this stuff on the campaign trail that he’s said in recent days? We want someone in the White House that everybody can respect, that our kids can respect, that our parents can respect, that we ourselves can respect.”

Upton says with a razor thin margin between Democrats and Republicans in Congress, it’s more important than ever that someone with a desire to cooperate and solve problems occupies the Oval Office. He doesn’t believe Donald Trump will be that individual if elected.

We know this Project 2025 that he’s got in his back pocket, that he’s got a lot of his former advisors that have written that. We know that it’ll be a divisive time, and I don’t know how we solve the issues that are before us.”

Upton says he served for decades in Congress and learned during that time that people want government to do its job. He says people don’t like gridlock or partisan politics.

Upton also said in a statement this week Trump “directly jeopardized the peaceful transition from one administration to the next,” making him unfit for the nation’s highest office.

As for whether we’ll see Upton campaign with Harris — he told us she’s certain to be in Michigan in the new few weeks, so who knows?
