DEA Drug Takeback Day this Saturday

The Drug Enforcement Agency will hold its 27th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday.

The DEA says it’s teaming up with healthcare and police agencies all over the country to set up locations where anyone can drop off unneeded medications so they can be disposed safely.

There will be anonymous disposal sites for medications at more than 4,000 locations nationwide. Among them will be the Michigan State Police post in Niles and Howard Township Hall in Cass County.

The DEA says drug overdoses occur when prescriptions wind up in the wrong person’s hands, so it’s always safer to get rid of old drugs by dropping them off so they can be destroyed.

Many places have year-round drop off boxes. That includes pharmacies all over Southwest Michigan. You can search for them on the DEA’s website.
