An animal shelter in northern Michigan, the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society in Harbor Springs, is helping displaced animals from Hurricane Helene in North Carolina and Tennessee.

Shelter Operations Director Sarah Schertel says she and a few other staff members went to the areas to help out and brought animals back.

We were fortunate enough to bring in 31 wonderful animals that were transported from different hurricane-affected areas,” Schertel said. “These guys were already looking for their forever homes in their prospective locations, but in order to make room for the animals that may have been displaced during the storm, these guys are now in northern Michigan.”

Schertel says she hopes that animals lost in the hurricane will be reunited with their families in the area. She says they are evaluating the cats and dogs they brought back from the south and they’ll be available for adoption soon.
