As of Friday morning, nearly one million Michigan voters had already cast their ballot in the November 5 election.

The Michigan Secretary of State’s office says 944,819 — or about 13% of the state’s registered voters — have returned their absentee ballots.

Nearly 31,000 people in Berrien County this year requested absentee ballots with about 25% of the county’s voters signing up for permanent absentee status. That means they’ll automatically be sent absentee ballots each election. Of the county’s 31,000 requested absentee ballots, about 13,000 had been returned as of Friday.

In Van Buren County, about 14,000 absentee ballots have been requested and about 8,400 have been returned, and in Cass County, the number of absentee ballots is about 8,100 with 3,700 so far returned.

For those who wish to vote before November 5 but in person, early voting in all three Southwest Michigan counties will begin October 26.
