Davante Adams expects to make his debut for the New York Jets on Sunday night at Pittsburgh. The star wide receiver was acquired from Las Vegas on Tuesday. Adams was limited at the Jets’ walkthrough practice session, but said he’ll be able to play against the Steelers. Adams missed the Raiders’ past three games with a hamstring injury that coincided with his request to be traded. He’s reunited with Aaron Rodgers. Adams caught 615 passes from Rodgers for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns during eight seasons together in Green Bay.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the terms had not been announced. Detroit plays NFC North-leading Minnesota on the road Sunday in a potentially pivotal game in the division race and for playoff positioning. The Lions won the NFC North last season, their first division title since 1993.

The Liberty are now one victory away from winning their first title ever. Game 4 is Friday night in Minnesota with a deciding fifth game in New York on Sunday if necessary. NBA – Lonzo Ball makes long-awaited return from knee injuries, scores 10 in return
Lonzo Ball got a rousing ovation in his long-awaited return for the Chicago Bulls after being sidelined for nearly three years because of a knee injury. Ball scored 10 points in 15 minutes in the Bulls’ 125-123 preseason victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. The point guard also had an assist, a steal and a block in his first appearance since Jan. 14, 2022. Ball underwent a cartilage and meniscus transplant in his left knee last year after several procedures failed to fix his injury. He thought he “was moving great” and the knee gave him no trouble “at all.” Ball got a rousing ovation when he subbed in for Josh Giddey following a timeout midway through the first quarter.

NBA – Sports betting can confuse players so NBA helps them discern wrong or right
One Jontay Porter was one too many for the NBA when it comes to sports betting. The NBA has led the way for American professional sports leagues’ foray into the once-forbidden territory while trying to balance betting and the integrity of the game. Players who violate established guidelines can face lifetime banishment. Porter found that out when he bet on Raptors games while playing for Toronto. The NBA in 2018 signed a contract with gambling company MGM. The league also signed FanDuel and DraftKings as official sponsors in 2021. The landscape can be confusing, so the NBA has a program in place to educate those from the league office to players, coaches and support staff on individual teams so that they understand the potential pitfalls for breaking any rules.

NCAAFB – NCAA closes loophole that allowed Oregon to purposely induce late penalty
The NCAA football rules committee has issued guidance to close a loophole that allowed second-ranked Oregon to exploit an illegal substitution penalty late in its victory over Ohio State to take time off the clock. With Ohio State driving on its final possession of the game and just seconds left, Oregon was flagged for having too many defenders on the field. While the Buckeyes gained 5 yards, the move took four seconds off the clock and Ohio State didn’t have time to call a timeout for a potential game-winning field goal. The NCAA coordinator of football officials says in a statement the new guidance looks to “take away any gain for the defense” from committing an intentional penalty.

NCAAFB –Banished letters of intent, shrunk transfer window equals more college chaos
The time-honored tradition of high school athletes proudly sitting behind a table and signing a national letter of intent is a thing of the past. In its place starting next month, athletes will ink their name to financial aid packages that will likely be tied to a revenue-sharing contract. The NCAA announced the death of the letter of intent last week on the same day it introduced a newly condensed schedule for signing players out of the transfer portal. Coaches say they are confused amid all the changes to college athletics.

Billie Jean King started the Women’s Sports Foundation with a $5,000 check. She’s turned that investment into $100 million and a half century of helping girls and women achieve their dreams through travel and training grants, local sports programs and mentoring athletes and coaches. King celebrated the 50th anniversary of the foundation by honoring the 1999 U.S. women’s World Cup champions, PWHL and Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Mark Walter and the 2024 WNBA rookie class on Wednesday night in New York. Nearly 100 female athletes attended the dinner to celebrate the milestone and King, a tireless advocate for equal pay and more investment in women’s sports.
