A young Watervliet girl diagnosed with terminal and incurable Batten Disease is the inspiration behind a fundraising event set for this Saturday, featuring a Haunted Disc Golf Course and Haunted Halloween Trails.

Avaree Dobberstein was diagnosed in January 2023. Put on by her parents Brad and Deanna, Brad tells us this event aims to give plenty of memories with friends and family.

“The event is our way to try to spread some light of positivity in the darker days that we have facing us here going forward. So we really hope everybody that comes out gets to enjoy themselves, they have a good time, and that they get to themselves make some good memories out of this experience that we’re trying to offer everyone.”

On October 19 starting at 10 a.m., the disc golf event will feature both singles and doubles tournament with spooky decorations and animatronics. Players can play throughout the day until 5 p.m., where the doubles at dark tournament will take place starting at 6:30 p.m.

“We’ve got a collection of about maybe 50 animatronics plus with a whole collection of lights that we put out here. It is really something amazing that we have pulled over the years that we’re getting closer and closer to a theme park type attraction.”

Trophies and raffles will take place at 6:30. Registration is $25 per player or $50 for both day and night golf. The $50 also includes an automatic entry into the ace pool. Visitors are encouraged to wear a costume and appropriate shoes.

The event aims to raise awareness and support for Batten Disease. We have a link for registration at our website.
