Updating a story WSJM first brought you on Monday, after substantial cleanup and construction repairs, Galien River County Park is now reopened to the general public.

Making the announcement Tuesday morning, Berrien County Parks Director Jill Adams shared the welcome news.

“Galien River County Park is opened back up to the public today, October 8. The park has been closed since late August due to extensive storm damage,” Adams said. “Galien River County Park is a spectacular place for leaf peeping, birding, and an easy hike.”

The park is located at 17424 Red Arrow Highway, New Buffalo. Current hours of operation are dawn to dusk, daily. More information about the park can be found at www.berriencounty.org/1297/Galien-River-County-Park.

The park had been closed since August 27 when storms caused significant damage, breaking and uprooting trees and damaging boardwalk areas. Adams estimates the cost of cleanup and repairs totals more than $30,000.
