The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced parts of M-40 will be back open for traffic. MDOT spokesperson Nick Schrippa tells us that both southbound and northbound M-40 north of 4th Street along with all cross streets north of M-40 and 4th Street intersection will be opening Friday evening.

“Folks will be able to get all the way through on southbound and then we’re getting rid of the north half of the detour which is where most of the traffic is in downtown Long Beach.”

With access to Lawton’s downtown now open, work will continue on northbound M-40 south of 4th Street, along with the 4th Street intersection that will be open in the next coming weeks.

“South of 4th Street and the 4th Street intersection, we’re still working on those obviously, and those will remain closed until Monday, October 14th is our estimation.”

Schrippa noted that this is the final touches on the two-year, $10.1 million investment project.
