Pickleball enthusiasts in Southwest Michigan have a chance to play all year round now as the South Shore Health and Racquet Club has opened its new indoor courts.

The new 30,000 square foot addition took about a year to complete and gives players a unique experience, says owner Sarah Lancaster.

We’re very excited,” Lancaster said. “We’re just starting some of our fall leagues and play and classes. So it’s fun to see returning faces of people that have been playing outdoors all summer, and then new faces for people that are checking out the new facility as well.”

The $2 million project includes eight pickleball courts in addition to a lounge area and bar.

In addition to open-play sessions, tournaments, private lessons and private rentals, Lancaster says with these courts dedicated strictly to pickleball, it gives more options to community members.

Playing on a court that maybe share court lines or a basketball court and a volleyball court and all those others, it’s fine, it works, but having the experience of playing on a pickleball court with the court surface that we offer and a permanent pickleball net, it really just gives you that full experience of the game of pickleball.”
