It’s getting closer to the winter months, and Indiana Michigan Power is reminding people to weatherproof or winterize their homes ahead of the cold season. When done correctly, a weatherized home can be energy efficient and offer savings to one’s energy bill.

I&M spokesperson Kara Stevenson tells us now is the time to save money in order to stay comfortable in your home this winter.

“Doing it now ensures that you’re saving energy, you’re looking for those air leaks or different things like that where you can get those corrected, you can identify them and save on that energy use that literally sneaking out your door or your window with that air leak.”

So, what can homeowners do to prepare for the winter?

“One of the big things that people can look to do are, you know, take a walk through your house and look at some of those door frames, window frames, the entrance to an attic if you have it, and see if you feel any of those air leaks coming out,” Stevenson says.

I&M customers can complete an online energy checkup and receive a free kit of energy saving products upon survey completion.
