Detroit Council approves safety zones

After more than four hours of public comment over two day this week, Detroit City Council members have approved a new ordinance which establishes “bubbles,” or safety zones to protect patients from protestors as they seek services at healthcare facilities in the city.

The city clerk read the roll call during this week’s vote.

Madam President, that motion passes.”

The issue is anti-abortion protesters harassing people as they enter clinics.

As a result of the new ordinance, protestors will now not be able to gather within 15 feet of any clinic entrance, and will not be able to get within 8 feet of any person seeking medical services, without consent.
