South Haven Department of Public Safety has issued a water boil advisory following a water main break. Superintendent of South Haven Water and Sewer Quentin Clark tells us contractors were installing fiber and struck a water main while drilling.
“(It) should be up by the end of the afternoon, but there will be a boil water advisory in effect for the next few days until we collect all the routine samples that are required by EGLE.”
The water boil advisory is in effect for those located within the Willow Avenue area between Le Grange Street and Phillps Street. Remember that any water used for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled before consumption to ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes.
In addition, city staff also reported a sanitary sewer overflow. Early Thursday morning, a report came in of a sewer like odor smell near the Phoenix drain near Michigan and Prospect. They discovered a manhole was overflowing. Staff did remove the blockage upstream of the manhole, and the sewer is now to normal flow conditions.
