In light of recent events, the Benton Harbor Area Schools District is considering a new district wide security system upgrade.

With the help of a $500,000 US Department of Justice’s Office COPS Office School Violence Prevention Program grant, district superintendent Kelvin Butts says these upgrades will help provide students and staff a safe learning environment.

“It enhances what we have to ensure that students, staff, and the community are safe.”

Butts says this project is key to ensuring they are able to focus on education. The project will include an upgrade on cameras and other security measures.

The school board will vote on the issue next week during its regular board meeting on October 8.
