Legislation to regulate ‘car sharing’ being considered in Lansing

As it becomes more popular for people to rent someone else’s car for a day or more in Michigan, there are now some state bills to regulate the practice, known as car sharing.

State Representative Brenda Carter is one of the legislation sponsors.

The bill authorizes peer-to-peer car sharing programs to purchase necessary insurance to ensure coverage is in place for shared vehicle drivers and shared vehicle owners during the entirety of the car sharing experience,” Carter said.

Carter says the bills create common sense car sharing regulations. Car sharing is possible through platforms like Turo.
