Is this election season stressing you out? Are you getting into heated political discussions with family and friends?

If you’re about to get into a fight about politics with a friend, family member, or co-worker, Oakland Family Services President Jaimie Clayton says think about it first.

Clayton says if you do engage, make sure it’s a productive discussion. If the election is getting you worked up, she says there are some things you can do.

“Put your devices down, get off your phone, because it is really now in everything,” Clayton said. “It isn’t just when you watch the news, right? On Facebook, all of a sudden you’re seeing your family members post things. So I think it’s really important that we take a step back and we assess for ourselves, where are we? Are you feeling anxious when you watch the news?”

Clayton says you can get your mind off of the situation by taking a walk or doing something else you love.
