Vice presidential debate tonight

Vice presidential nominees Tim Walz and JD Vance will take to the debate stage in New York City tonight  to try and sway voters as early voting begins in many battleground states.

Aaron Kall, the director of debate at the University of Michigan, says vice presidential debates can help change the narrative for a campaign, something Vance will try to do after former President Trump had a subpar performance against Kamala Harris in September’s debate.

Joe Biden in 2012 really turned in a pretty solid performance against Paul Ryan after Barack Obama had a really poor first debate against Mitt Romney in Colorado,” Kall said. “Bob Dole even back in 1976 after Gerald Ford did do very well in that debate. If he can do well, kind of change the narrative from that first debate and provide a little bit of momentum to the campaign as we kind of get under to the early voting in some of the key states.”

The debate will be moderated by CBS News. Similar to September’s debate, microphones will be muted and there will be no audience.
