Metro Detroit counties fighting over sewage dumped into lake

There’s drama between two metro Detroit communities.

Macomb County is accusing Oakland County of dumping sewage into Lake St. Clair. Oakland County Board Chair Dave Woodward held a press conference this week to deny the accusations, saying Macomb County has created their own water quality problems by not following state recommendations.

Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller responded to Woodward’s claims.

How can you say with a straight face that dumping billions of gallons of partially treated , and in some cases untreated, sewer water on your neighbor is okay?”

Woodward says sewage from Oakland County accounts for less than 1% of Lake St. Clair’s total flow. However, some in Macomb County blame Oakland for “muck” along the beaches.
