It’s looking like the village of Eau Claire will be the new home for playground equipment from Silver Beach County Park.

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners was told Thursday the village has put in a request to receive the old Silver Beach playground equipment when the new equipment is installed at the beach in the coming months.

Eau Claire Village Clerk Virginia Gonzalez tells us Eau Claire has been trying to acquire playground equipment for Veterans Park and Elizabeth Park for some time, but it’s had little luck securing grants. So, it made a bid for the Silver Beach equipment.

The county parks department has considered the matter, and the full county commission could approve the donation at its next meeting.

Gonzalez says the plan is to divide the Silver Beach playground across the two parks in Eau Claire so there’s something available for multiple age ranges at both locations. She says the Eau Claire Village Council voted to accept the equipment this week, and the village will take on the cost of transporting it, possibly with the help of some volunteers.

Gonzalez says this is a “big, big acceptance for us,” and village leaders are “pretty excited.”
