Daylight Saving creates stress for diabetics

Daylight Saving Time is fast approaching, and some people living with diabetes are worrying about the time change.

Automated insulin pumps have to manually have the time changed, which can lead to issues for users. Dr. Saleh Aldasouqi with Michigan State University’s Health Sciences says manufacturers should have the capability to have the pumps automatically change time.

“The manufacturers really have to equip the insulin pumps with automated [models],”Aldasouqi said. “I’m not an engineer, but I don’t see how difficult it is now with the huge advancement in technology and engineering. What is so difficult in putting a small app in the insulin pump to just automate it?”

State lawmakers have proposed getting rid of Daylight Saving Time in Michigan, but the bill failed to reach the Committee on Government Operations.
