This is Asthma Peak Week, when emergency rooms are expected to see a spike in asthma-related visits.

Around mid-September, patients endure several asthma or allergy triggers including pollen and mold. Allergist Purvi Parikh says there are various symptoms to examine as well.

Often those symptoms are coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, trouble breathing, chest pain, and it can be quite serious,” Pareek said. “We see 10.8 million asthma attacks this time of year and 1.8 million emergency visits too.”

Dr. Pareek says its crucial for people living with asthma to proactively prepare with their doctor to help overcome the underlying anxiety of having an attack during the upcoming fall season and beyond.
