Colt Keith hit a two-run homer, Matt Vierling had three hits while driving in the go-ahead run, and the Detroit Tigers rallied from an early four-run deficit to beat the Kansas City Royals 7-6. Pinch hitter Wenceel Pérez also drove two runs for Detroit, which began its final road trip of the regular season by moving within 1 1/2 games of Minnesota for the final AL wild-card spot. The Twins lost to Cleveland earlier in the night. Brenan Hanifee earned the win in relief for Detroit while Jason Foley worked the ninth for his 24th save.

Shota Imanaga struck out a career-high 11 in winning his fifth straight start, Dansby Swanson homered while tying his season high with four RBIs and Chicago Cubs defeated the Oakland Athletics 9-2. Chicago remained five games behind the New York Mets for the final NL wild card with 12 games remaining. Imanaga (14-3) allowed five hits over six innings, including Brent Rooker’s 38th homer, a two run-drive in the third. The 31-year-old left-hander walked three.
White Sox 8, Angels 4 – Sox on 3-game winning streak for first time in nearly 3 months after beating Angels 8-4
Andrew Benintendi homered twice for the third time this season and drove in four runs, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-4 for their first three-game winning streak in nearly three months. It is only the fourth time the White Sox have won at least three in a row — and the first since June 27-29, when they beat Atlanta and Colorado. Chicago took two of three from Oakland over the weekend to snap a string of 20 consecutive series losses. The White Sox are 36-115 with 11 games left and are trying to avoid the post-1900 record of 120 losses by the 1962 expansion New York Mets.

Falcons 22, Eagles 21 – Cousins caps winning drive with TD pass to London as Falcons rally past Eagles 22-21
Kirk Cousins led a flawless last-minute drive for Atlanta and connected with Drake London for a 7-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left to give the Falcons a 22-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Saquon Barkley dropped a short pass that stopped the clock with 1:46 left and forced the Eagles to settle for a field goal instead of a game-sealing first down. That was plenty of time for Cousins — especially against an Eagles defense playing soft coverage with a nonexistent pass rush. Cousins hit hit Darnell Mooney for 21 and 26 yards on consecutive plays during the final drive.

The Detroit Lions were lucky to come away with a split of two home games against teams they beat in the playoffs last season. The Lions beat the Los Angeles Rams in their opener before falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baker Mayfield outplayed Jared Goff, who looked like the quarterback who struggled to get the ball downfield three years ago. Now the Lions must prepare to play their first away game of the season at Arizona, which just blew out the Rams 41-10.
NFL – Bears need to improve offensive line to take pressure off Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams faced constant pressure behind a shaky offensive line. It added up to another rough outing for the No. 1 draft pick and mounting concerns about the Chicago Bears’ blocking. The Bears lost 19-13 at Houston on Sunday night. Tight end Cole Kmet says it’s not “a talent issue necessarily up front.” The Texans consistently blitzed and brought pressure. They sacked Williams seven times. The former Heisman Trophy winner out of Southern California completed 23 of 37 passes for 174 yards with two interceptions. That followed a shaky debut in Chicago’s season-opening win over Tennessee.

NHL – Detroit Red Wings sign Lucas Raymond to an 8-year, $64.6 million contract
The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Lucas Raymond to an eight-year contract worth $64.6 million days before training camp opens. Raymond will count $8.075 million against the salary cap through 2032. The 22-year-old was a restricted free agent without a contract for the upcoming NHL season. The Red Wings have another one of those in defenseman Moritz Seider, who won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2021-22. Detroit is looking to end an eight-year playoff drought dating to the Original Six franchise’s last appearance in 2016.

WNBA – WNBA playoff seeds mostly still undecided as league enters final week of season
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have clinched the sixth seed in the WNBA playoffs. They won’t know where they’re headed for the opening round until at least Tuesday as six of the other seven postseason spots are still undecided. Phoenix is locked into the seventh seed. The WNBA regular season comes down to the final four days this week with all 12 teams playing Thursday to close it out. The postseason begins Sunday.
NCAAFB – Alex Orji to start at QB for No. 18 Michigan against No. 11 USC
Alex Orji will start at QB for No. 18 Michigan against No. 11 USC. Coach Sherrone Moore said Monday that Orji would get the start over Davis Warren, who led the Wolverines on offense in their first three games. Warren threw three interceptions on Saturday in a 10-point win at home over Arkansas State. He was replaced in the fourth quarter by Orji. In 12 games as a change-of-pace option, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound Orji has completed 4 of 7 passes for 20 yards and carried the ball 31 times for 181 yards and three scores.
