Tuesday is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Henry Ford Health’s Dr. Brian Amidani has seen an increase in support in recent years for preteens and teens who are struggling. He saysif your child is isolating themselves, starting to stay back and not interacting with their friends, that may be a warning sign.

Also, if they are feeling or expressing hopelessness or worthlessness, starting to express that they really aren’t worth anything or there isn’t any value to their life, it’s okay to have a conversation with kids and ask them how they’re doing and be willing to listen,” Amidani said.

Henry Ford has since created the Zero Suicide Program, which has been implemented around the world.

Ahmadani said resources like the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline have helped greatly, and anyone can call 988 to talk to someone confidentially and free anytime.
