St. Joseph City Commissioners have approved a new contract with the police officer’s union.

At a meeting this week, commissioners signed off on the three-year deal, which applies to police officers and detectives within the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.

City Manager John Hodgson said the contract includes pay increases of 6%, 6%, and 5% over its three years. He noted some communities offer a little more in the way of yearly raises but said St. Joseph pays its police officers more bonuses for things like new certifications and promotions.

The St. Joseph Police Officers Association approved the agreement on Friday.

The union’s previous contract expired on June 30.
