Michigan education leaders are encouraging parents to enroll their young children in pre-school programs.

Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential Director Beverly Griffea says it’s imperative to get kids some kind of early education to prepare them for real school.

It’s necessary, really from the very beginning, to start preparing the student, preparing that child to be ready so that when they get to kindergarten or first grade, that they’ve already accomplished some things and that they understand the learning and that they’re able to move through seamlessly with the transition and they’re not behind,” Griffea said.

Walker-Griffea says the statewide Pre-K program is available to anyone as long as they are a resident.
