City commissioners approve employment agreement with new city manager

It’s official. Emily Hackworth will take over as the city manager of St. Joseph on September 27.

The St. Joseph City Commission on Monday approved a two-year employment agreement with Hackworth to replace retiring City Manager John Hodgson. Hackworth is currently the assistant city manager.

St. Joseph City Attorney Laurie Schmidt told commissioners the contract between Hackworth and the city is a pretty “standard agreement.” Hackworth’s salary will be $150,000 per year. The compared to $157,560 per year for Hodgson as of last August.

Hodgson has been city manager since 2015. Hackworth has been the assistant city manager for about two years.

Hodgson’s last day with the city will be September 26.Hackworth told commissioners Monday she approves of the employment agreement.
