Fernwood Botanical Garden has named a new director of horticulture.

The attraction in Niles says Jonathon Hensley has been hired for the position, joining the team on Tuesday.

Hensley is from Indianapolis and has an undergraduate degree in philosophy from Wabash College, where he was assigned the opportunity to work at the college’s arboretum. That determined his career path.

Hensley went on to earn his Professional Gardener’s Training Program Diploma in Ornamental Horticulture from Temple University and earned a Master of Science in Horticultural Science from the University of Minnesota.

Fernwood says Hensley is an experienced professional with 23 years of horticulture, greenhouse, and landscape experience.

Fernwood Director Carol Line says he brings a wealth of knowledge to the job and will follow the path of other visionaries who have led the botanical garden.
