Vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and former President Bill Clinton headlined the third day of the Democratic National Convention Wednesday. The theme was “a fight for our freedoms.”

Ahead of her own address to the convention this week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer emphasized the importance of Michigan to this year’s election.

Michigan is important,” Whitmer said. “I would say we are the most important state in the country. Every governor says that, but we know what happens in Michigan is going to have a dramatic impact on the outcome of this national election. So I think there will be a lot of focus and connecting with people, and I’m excited about that because I love that part of the campaign.”

Whitmer says she’s seeing the convention energize voters, adding the work ahead will be hard because a lot of people are exhausted by politics.

Whitmer says when she speaks Thursday night, she’ll focus on what’s at stake in this election.
