Stolen equipment recovered in Buchanan Township

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has arrested one suspect in the theft of equipment from a restaurant in Buchanan.

The department says a gas generator was reported stolen from Evelyn Mae’s BBQ on North Redbud Trail in Buchanan Township on Monday. Investigating sheriff’s deputies found the stolen generator at a home in Buchanan Township on Wednesday and arrested 44-year-old James Bouma. He was taken to the Berrien County Jail on larceny charges, arraigned, and released on bond.

Police are investigating whether Bouma was involved in several similar thefts around the Buchanan area recently.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was assisted in the investigation by the Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team.
