Improvements to the ball fields at Dickinson Park in St. Joseph are almost finished.

St. Joseph Public Schools Superintendent Kristen Bawks tells us the St. Joseph school board this year approved an engineering project to upgrade the ball fields at the park. The included resurfacing of ball fields, new fencing, dugouts, and refreshed press boxes.

“Everything will be seeded on both softball and baseball fields by Labor Day, and with the hope that our weather will cooperate as intended, we’ll be ready for the 25 season,” Bawks said.

Bawks said that irrigation began last week, and will be complete in the next coming weeks.

The park will be closed until work is complete. St. Joseph Public Schools previously agreed to a 50-year lease of the park with the city of St. Joseph, allowing the district to use funds to beautify the public space
