Western Michigan University is offering a course on drone operation.

Facility specialist David Kemp says it’s a growing field with many job opportunities, like inspecting roofs or wind turbines, or even finding missing persons.

What our certificate program aims to do is give these students hands-on flight time so that when they go and they graduate to these larger platforms, for instance, in some of these companies or operate the same ones that we’re going to operate here, they’re more confident and more employable in regards to that then,” Kemp said.

Students will learn to build and operate the UAV, or unmanned aerial vehicle. They’ll also have the option to move onto more more advanced classes as part of a larger series of courses.
