As election season is upon us, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is working to ensure election integrity. In her recent visit to St. Joseph, WSJM asked about her views on the election climate. The attorney general called out misinformation, and advised voters to verify things like social media posts through trusted information sources.

“(Don’t) accept any information that comes to you that seems off, unless it’s coming from a trusted source. And that could be from news media that are covering elections, from the Michigan Department of State, the Secretary of State’s office, or your county clerk or your local clerk. Those are the people to listen to.”

Nessel said her department aims to ensure election integrity through the proper processing and delivery of mail-in ballots, safeguarding the physical safety of voters and election workers, prosecuting election fraud, addressing threats made to officials, along with eliminating misinformation.

“Have faith in our election system and more than anything, you know, you can’t complain about our elections if you don’t participate in them. We’re going to make sure that everyone gets a chance to vote who’s eligible to do so and we’re going to make sure that everyone gets a chance to vote who’s eligible to do so and that your vote counts.”

The primary election in Michigan is Tuesday, August 6. The general election is Tuesday, November 5.
