The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has approved a contract for the construction of a new playground at Silver Beach County Park.
At their regular meeting this week, the board approved the bid from BG Construction and Engineering at a cost of $1,063,000. Berrien County Parks Director Jill Adams told commissioners last month a bit about what’s included.
“We are excited to be able to award this bid to B&G Construction and Engineering out of Buchanan — local,” Adams said. “How we bid out was a base bid for the main project that includes the large structures, some benches, and the surfacing, as well as some hard surface connection and ADA accessible parking spaces.”
The effort to replace the more than 30-year-old current playground at Silver Beach has been going on for a few years now and has included fundraising by the Berrien County Parks Department. Adams said this month they’re about 89% of the way to their goal of $1.25 million.
With the contract now approved by county commissioners, construction can begin in the fall.
