The Michigan man known as “the shark” is going to attempt to swim across Lake Michigan again in August.

Jim Dreyer failed twice last summer, making it about 27 miles on the second attempt when his supply dinghy was torn apart. He wants to try again, towing the supplies again from Milwaukee to Grand Haven.

I think the swim itself, it’s 82.9 miles point to point,” Dreyer said. “It can easily be 90 miles or more with the currents. I expect that it will take 72 continuous hours. Could be more, could be less depending on the conditions that I’m in.”

The 61-year-old Dreyer did swim across Lake Michigan back in 1998.

Dreyer will begin his swim August 6 in Milwaukee and end in Grand Haven.
