Health leaders say this is the time for parents to take their children for a check-up and new vaccines before the new school year starts in the fall.

Dr. Tiffney Widner is a pediatrician at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She says parents are already getting on top of it.

It’s actually already starting,” Widner said. “So a lot of my parents, especially those that are enrolling their children in Head Starts, the Head Starts are already asking for the paperwork. So my four-year-olds are coming in already. And that’s one of the big ages because we give boosters to MMR, Chickenpox.”

Widner says it’s important for kids to get to the doctor now before they get into crowded classrooms in the fall.
