Canadian wildfires could bring smoky skies to Michigan this week

Wildfires in Canada are once again affecting air quality here in Michigan.

Mark Sekelsky is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids and says the smoky skies were expected to begin in Michigan Wednesday.

We’re seeing the winds coming from the northwest down into the Great Lakes region from those Canadian wildfires,” Sekelsky said. “So we’re seeing some smoke in the air filtering the sunlight a little bit, and that is a result of those wildfires up in Canada.”

Sekelsky expects the smoke from Canada to appear in Michigan for at least the next few weeks. However, it’s not expected to be as bad as it was in Michigan last year.
