The United Way of Southwest Michigan’s School Supply Spectacular is back, helping kids of Cass County prepare for school.
The event, to be held over three days starting on August 5, will provide free backpacks filled with school supplies to students. The United Way’s Debbie Ramierz says the organization wants to make sure every child starts the school year with the necessary supplies.
“We’re excited” Ramirez said. “This is an annual event for us and we’re always excited to be able to get out there into Cass County and help some of the students and the families who might need a little extra help as they’re getting ready to prepare for school.”
New to the event this year, the School Supply Spectacular will be held at four different locations. Over the course of four days, 850 backpacks will be given out to students.
Children receiving a backpack will also have a chance to win a Golden Ticket. 10 backpacks will have a ticket inside and winners will receive an additional back-to-school goodies bag.
To help with the event, volunteers are still needed. Those interested can log on to Volunteer United and choose the best day that works for them. Ramierz says they need help with packing and distributing.
