The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a meeting this week on its environmental review of the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert.

As Holtec International seeks to reopen Palisades, the NRC must hold a long series of meetings. This is one of them.

At Thursday’s gathering, the NRC will take public comment on issues that should be addressed as part of the environmental review.

The NRC, as the lead federal agency, is conducting the environmental review with the Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office as a cooperating agency. The DOE has issued a conditional commitment for a loan guarantee to Holtec for the restart of Palisades, and the NRC meeting on Thursday is one way for the public to submit comments before the July 29 deadline.

The meeting will be at the Grand Upton Hall at the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. NRC staff will be on hand to take public comments and field questions.
