St. Joe Today is preparing for its latest summer festivity with Love Local Weekend to celebrate all that Southwest Michigan has to offer.

The weekend of July 19 will feature the Mike Yore Memorial Car Show. On Friday, July 19 from 4 to 8 p.m., over 150 vintage cars will line up along Lake Boulevard for all to check out.

St. Joe Today event coordinator Danielle Crevier said that the show is a lot of fun and a great summer event.

It’s just kind of a fun community event that’s been longstanding,” Crevier said. “To see people that have been here since the beginning, it’s fun to see new faces and people discovering it, even though it’s been around for a long time, or just finding it.”

The Mike Yore Memorial Car Show was named after the late racer and car enthusiast, Mike Yore. Yore, who was a co-founder of the Venetian Festival and other local events, first started the car show in 1989. When he passed away in 2000, the car show was renamed in his honor and has been run by St. Joe Today since 2012.

We get a really good turnout for cars and then they just like talking about their cars, sharing their passion about their cars and their restoration process and all of that. And it’s just really cool to see again a mix of people from the community that aren’t car owners but are enthusiasts or again just kind of stumble upon the show. It’s a lot of fun.”

Love Local Weekend, which started in 2020, was created to celebrate all things southwest Michigan. It will feature concerts, special menu items at restaurants downtown, and more. The month of July celebration includes the Friday Night Concert Series, Race for YMCA 5 and 10 k, a free Jazz concert and more.
